Onyx Joins Forces with Local Charities
Wherever we can we like to join forces with a local charity to raise money for a wonderful cause.
In 2014 we teamed up with Forever Stars, a Beeston based charity raising money to cater for the needs of parents who suffered a still birth. We hosted a charity event in conjunction with the launch of our new website. This included a charity auction on the night at Nottinghamβs Alea Casino. Our event was a huge success and everyone who attended had a great time, our stunning jewellery was sold at the event. With a percentage being donated to Forever Stars. We also hosted a raffle on the night with all the prizes donated from local Beeston businesses including Cast, TEK, Bubbleit, Metro, Cab Line, Amores and many more!
The most heated bidding on the night was over a beautiful black diamond solitaire ring, which turned out to be very popular with the guests and sparked a bit of frenzy!
The following year we donated a diamond pendant and chain design made in our own workshop to raise more funds for Forever Stars to help them reach their ultimate goal of Β£100,000. All of the money raised was spent on the fabulous Serenity suite designed to meet the needs of bereaved parents at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham which are otherwise not made available by the National Health Service. The suite supports newly bereaved parents by providing emotional support, practical advice and information.
We naturally moved onto supporting another local charity, the innovative John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre in Nottingham. Every penny we raise helps the team of scientists at JVG who dedicate their lives to finding new ways to diagnose and treat cancer using cutting edge immunotherapeutic techniques β helping the bodyβs own immune system to fight cancer.
Last year we celebrated our 30th year in business, we threw a 30th anniversary/charity fundraiser, again at the Alea Casino β along the same lines as before with our customers as catwalk models, auctioning off pieces from our many collections. This time we invited other local independent businesses to come along and have stalls to showcase their own business; it was a real community event that celebrated our local network. We raised Β£1,000 on the night, our best fundraiser so far!
During the year Erica and the staff hold talks at various ladies group and always donate the fee to JVG. Our latest fundraiser was on Friday 20th October, when the Onyx team aimed to cycle 150 miles, aka coat to coast of Britain. But infact, we smashed it and managed to cycle well over 200 miles, the equivalent of Nottingham to Gretna Green! This time, we raised over Β£500.
We thoroughly enjoy supporting local charities as we can see how our efforts are helping our local community and the greater good.
